Yes. They are padded like the rest of the jacket and keep their shape even with the hood down, when they stay visible on your back. They are not sewn-on appliqués, they are part of the hood.

How warm is it?

Can the belt be removed?
Yes, it runs through the belt loops and slides out. With the belt tied, the waist is defined and the volume focuses on the shoulders; without it, you get a fully roomy puffer.
